    Shows once again that a horse is not a piece of sports equipment! No matter how bred the animals are, they are not born to be ridden. And if they are, then with lots of care, love and gentleness or not at all!

    This was uncomfortable to watch as there are some really conflicting messages: At timestamp 19:47 they use a twitch on the horse. So while they explore 'new & innovative procedures they resort to the dark ages of an equine restraint invented in the 1700s. A twitch can be abusive if it's used tighter than necessary & for longer than 5 mins. Why not try acupoint HT 7 or Bai Hui : 100 Points Meeting point before the procedure to calm the horse instead? Activation of acupoints stimulates the release of opioids, a group of compounds that act on opioid receptors in nerves, the spinal cord, and the brain. The nerve blocking stage was also uncomfortable to watch. Galena is showing signs of obvious distress (her constant chewing and muzzle quivering) while the human "team" around her ignore her distress and continue with the invasive experiment/ procedure. Why does Lauren sit and watch from the sidelines instead of comforting her horse?? Was she told by the medical team to do that? *There is a disconnect - the emotional state of the horse seems secondary to the actual medical procedure.* The part where the horse whelps in pain as they administer another nerve block in her fetlock region left me unconvinced- especially as the team appear more concerned about each other than the horse. How telling. There are other, equally effective and most importantly, *non invasive procedures* that have amazingly effective benefits for lame horses: Acupressure, acupuncture & red light therapy. Most caring and empathic humans with equine companions would opt for non invasive procedures. If you are really intent on shifting the paradigm of lameness in horses, surely it would be far more conducive to consider the well being of the horse and stop using a restraint that belongs in the 1700s. Perhaps consider incorporating modalities such as acupressure, acupuncture &/or meridian work instead as they are far more beneficial for the horse.

    A horse will do so much to please its rider and we need to become more adept at reading our horses behavior. You can’t blame yourself because you were going off what your vet was suggesting and horses are a prey animal so they are very stoic and don’t show pain as a survival instinct. That being said, if you feel your horse is in pain then don’t waste time and keep speaking for your horse until someone listens. Thank you Susan for working with Galina to help her.

    HORSES SPEAK AND WE DON'T LISTEN, WE LABEL THEM AS NAUGHTY, LAZY, AND WE MAKE THEM, WE FORCE THEM, TO DO WHAT WE WANT THEM TO DO. IF A HORSE SWISHES HIS/HER TAIL, OR PUTS HIS/HER EARS BACK, OR NIPS AT THE AIR, THEY ARE COMMUNICATING "I'M IN PAIN, PLEASE DON'T DO THAT, PLEASE STOP". WHEN WILL WE LISTEN AND PUT THE HORSE FIRST BEFORE OURSELVES? EVEN IF IT MEANS WE DON'T GET TO RIDE THEM ANYMORE AND HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR KEEP, AND NOT DISPOSE OF THEM AND BUY OUR NEXT VICTIM. LOOK IN THE MIRROR HUMANS, WHEN A HORSE SAYS NO, IT MEANS NO, I DON'T CONSENT - THEN WE SHOULD STOP, WE SHOULD LISTEN AND WE SHOULD RESPECT THEIR WISHES. IT IS THEIR LIFE, NOT OURS. IT'S THEIR BODY, NOT OURS. IT'S THEIR PAIN, NOT OURS. ......AND BTW - HORSES WERE NOT MADE TO JUMP OVER AND OVER, NOR OVER HIGH FENCES. IN THE WILD, THE OCCASIONAL JUMP WHEN GETTING AWAY FROM A PREDATOR - A RARE "EVENT" - PUN INTENDED. YOU CAN'T TRASH A HORSES BODY, IT IS A BODY MADE OF MUSCLE, BONE, LIGAMENTS, JUST LIKE OURS. THINK OF YOURSELF HAVING TO JUMP OVER AND OVER, IT'S NOT NATURAL AND IT WOULD RUIN YOUR JOINTS AND BODY. THINK HUMANS, THINK.

    I am a woman in my late 30s who loves horses as the beautiful animals they are but as much as I would have liked to, have not had the fortune of ever being around them. I have petted quite a few horses, however, I have only ridden horses on two occasions during trail rides that lasted less than an hour. So I can safely say that I have ZERO knowledge of anything to do with these beautiful animals and yet, in almost ALL of the 24 examples of ‘behaviours of horses in pain’ shown in this video, I can comfortably recognise an animal who is clearly in pain. The so called experts and athletes in these horse industries are in complete denial of their horses feelings in an effort to pursue their own selfish goals! In the beginning of the video when this girl is riding Galina, she looks exactly how I look when I am trying to walk around in extremely uncomfortable, too tight, high heel shoes! How is it not blatantly obvious to her that she is in pain?

    There is no simple fix when you constantly subject your horse to jumps that are not even natural in nature. A horse in the wild does not challenge itself to do these high jumps.. please stop asking your horse to jump, their legs are not meant to do that kind of behavior.

    This is an impossible dream. Sadly a lot of horse owners are very badly informed and if they cant get them to work well they sell them on . A lot of owners are also not fit and cause thier horses not to carry them well. Human just have to get on with it and that is what they expect of thier horses. Not a perfect world Sadly.

    I leased a very old gelding named Buddy for 3 years. We had a rocky relationship for a long time. He would bite me and pin his ears whenever I asked him to trot or put on a saddle. I was told he was just a grouch and lazy, and I needed to be the leader. When he was only happy when I left him alone, I was told he was bored. After over a year of frustrating interactions, having to rely on a whip to get him to do anything, and seeing how much he despised being around me, I stopped turning to my trainers for advice and searched RUclips. I found a positive reinforcement trainer who used kind methods, and all her horses looked so happy and willing. I tried it with him, and his whole personality changed. He became eager to play with me and responded quicker to my cues. Our relationship blossomed, and I learned how it really felt to have a horse see you as a friend. He stopped biting me permanently, and even after a 2 hour ground work session, he was happy to perform tricks on Liberty in the pasture and would follow me to the gate when I said goodbye. He stopped trying to bite me when I put the bareback pad on. I stopped riding him in saddles when I learned how terrible a poorly fitted saddle is, so I stopped riding him in a saddle at all. Mostly we just did groundwork and liberty anyway. Sadly, he would still pin his ears and swish his tail when I'd ask him to trot. He was always lame, and the owner was neglectful and never took him to get examined. She had lots of lame horses that never got treated. So, we just never trotted. We had plenty of fun at the walk, and some of the best days were when we just walked around playing with toys and obstacles and doing tricks. The rescue he was at was a scam, and though I tried to adopt him as per my contract, the owner resisted and before our legal battle was completed all her horses were taken by Animal Control. He was put down by the new rescue after a laminitic attack. I wish I could've given him a proper retirement, but I'm glad he was finally taken away from that bad place.

    It is about time someone shared this important info with horse owners and lovers so thank you:) I have an 11 year old halter champion. She is an Arabian and very intelligent. emotional, snotty, and yes....stubborn! Her Left shoulder, most likely about the deltoid region is a TINY bit smaller in form to the right shoulder. There has not been an identified 'problem' and I have been told she is perfectly able to perform and even compete again. but she was kept as a pasture pet the last 8 years. I feel she has not been properly exercised or conditioned so I am seeing a bit of muscle atrophe. Can you suggest a way in which I can safely recover the beautiful champion she once was? I am giving her supplements and a bute-less daily formula for natural immunity responses. In the spring, I plan to work her and build that muscle back up. However, before ground work, she gets a full muscle massage, then growndwork, them while the muscles are warm-a stretch and THEN riding. I would really appreciate an answer:))

    • @ruthm1384
      @ruthm1384 7 месяцев назад

      I think you are mistaken. To perform a never block you don't require prior anaesthesia. Even dental anaesthesia is a form of nerve block, it blocks the pain signals from entering the brain and thus being perceived as pain. That's the procedure used in this video. It's a simple injection to the desired site to block the nerve from sensing pain. Maybe your type of a nerve block is different, or they give prior anaesthesia to make you feel more relaxed and comfortable. But the procedure itself is usually just like any other injection; a mild pinch. It should not hurt a lot.
